Orthoceras are extinct sea creatures that lived more than 400 million years ago. The name means straight horn, referring to the characteristic long, straight, conical shell. The preserved shell is all that remains of this mollusk which is an ancestor of our modern-day squid. Orthoceras can be found in sizes ranging from less than a centimetre to more than 14 feet long.
Gemlore
Because of their great age, Othoceras fossils have been used throughout the centuries as a talisman for protection and long life.
