Highly prized and used in Anglo Saxon and Celtic tribal jewellery, garnets were believed to have the power to protect the wearer from harm. More recently Garnets were traditionally exchanged between friends to offer protection and as tokens that they would meet again.

Care for your gemstone

Garnets are very durable and reasonably scratch resistant rated at 6.5-7.5 on the gemstone hardness scale. However, care should be taken to avoid dropping on to a hard surface.

Care for your stone by occasionally washing gently with warm soapy water. Avoid contact with solvent or petrolium based cleaning products.
